Vice President of R&D, Diabetes, Bio-Rad Laboratories
The Coachee had been with Bio-Rad for 26 years and had a reputation as an excellent scientist and leader. He was on track to be promoted, and was fully supported in this effort by his manager (Sr. Director, R&D | Global Sustaining and Products Support | Core Diagnostics). His responsibilities suddenly tripled when he took over two additional, unrelated areas and was then responsible for integrating them into a newly aligned group. As an additional challenge, he did not have product expertise in the two new areas. The Coachee was forced to quickly reorient his natural comfort zone from science to strategy. The six-month coaching plan was designed to help him demonstrate confidence as a leader, define new priorities, develop influencing skills, and drive change management. The result was that in a short period of time he had successfully eliminated silos, motivated resistant legacy teams, and gained comfort in his new role as a strategic leader responsible for driving business improvements.
I don’t feel like I’m drowning any more. This experience was transformative.” – Cory P., Bio-Rad Laboratories Vice President of R&D, Diabetes
